|
| 1864 | With the development of the European railroad network during the second half of the 19th century, Munich construction contractor Michael Sager receives his first contract for a section of the Gunzenhausen-Ingolstadt railroad line in 1864. The transportation infrastructure thus serves as the nucleus of what will later become HEILIT+WOERNER BAU-AG, as well as its predecessors Sager & Woerner and Heilmann & Littmann.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| 1869-88 | Five years later, the construction contractor is executing major railroad construction and civil engineering projects in Bavaria, Austria and Hungary. Over 1,000 kilometers of railroad line are completed during this period.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| 1898 | Michael Sager and the Woerner brothers merge their two companies to form the Sager & Woerner OHG Construction Company. By 1920, Sager & Woerner is already involved in extensive work aimed at improving road conditions in Germany, including construction of the first concrete roadways. Even in those days, numerous transportation infrastructure developments that would prove to be a major foundation for the company's success are being pursued at Sager & Woerner's workshops, laboratories and construction sites.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| 1933 | Construction of the German autobahn system begins. Early on, modern special concrete paving and earthmoving equipment is designed and built at Sager & Woerner in connection with this endeavor.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| 1978 | Sager & Woerner begins development of a new generation of special equipment for utilizing slipform paving technology in the production of concrete areas.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| 1980 | Sager & Woerner KG and Heilmann & Littmann Bau-AG merge to become HEILIT+WOERNER BAU-AG. During this period, HEILIT+WOERNER's new slipform paving technology is successfully employed in projects that include Frankfurt and Teveren Airports, Freeway A 3 near Passau or the Baghdad Free- and Expressway. The years of effort involved in the development and testing work culminate in the engineering and entrepreneurial breakthrough for HEILIT+WOERNER concrete paving trains. Between 1982 and 1985, alone, four million square meters of concrete pavement are produced.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| 1992 | In 1992, HEILIT+WOERNER BAU-AG broadens its transportation infrastructure activities through the acquisition of Czech roadbuilding contractor Dálnicní Stavby Praha a.s.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| 1993 | Warsaw-based HEILIT+WOERNER Budowlana Sp.z o.o. is formed as a wholly-owned subsidiary to serve the Polish market.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| 2000 | The HEILIT+WOERNER Transportation Infrastructure Division becomes transportation infrastructure specialist WALTER - HEILIT Verkehrswegebau GmbH.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| 2001 | Germany:
WALTER - HEILIT Verkehrswegebau GmbH acquires HEILIT Umwelttechnik GmbH (Environmental Engineering) from WALTER BAU-AG. A separate branch is established for scientific landfill construction.
Extension of the work shop and plant depot in Leipzig.
Abroad:
Establishment of a branch office in Poland and the Czech Republic for major projects. Acquisition of a 34-per cent stake in VIAMONT by our Czech subsidiary DSP in order to expand our railroad construction. Major innovations in the field of machinery development - containerized slipform pavers and concrete mixing plants - have been completed in 2002.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| 2002 | Germany:
A modular dowel driving machine has been designed and built for the new containerized slipform pavers, so that our slipforming equipment is now completely containerized.
Abroad:
First-time use of the containerized concrete mixing plants in Oman at the Persian Gulf. The capital stock of our Polish subsidiary Heilit+Woerner Budowlana was increased by 6 million zlotys. To open up the Hungarian market, the WALTER - HEILIT/ÈPKER GmbH, Hungary, joint venture was founded together with a regional company, each company holding a stake of 50 percent.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| 2003 | An ultra-modern, stationary asphalt mixing plant, with a 2.7 million Euro volume of investment, is put into operation in October 2003. The "Going East" strategy is carried on consistently: Foundation of the Russia (Moscow), Bulgaria (Sofia) and Hungary (Budapest) Branches. In the overseas project business, four landfill contracts are won in Bulgaria and one road construction project in Russia.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| 2005 | The STRABAG Group takes over major parts of the WALTER BAU Group. This take-over package also includes, inter alia, the WALTER HEILIT Verkehrswegebau GmbH, which has been re-named HEILIT+WOERNER Bau GmbH.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| 2006 | In addition to STRABAG, DYWIDAG and Züblin, HEILIT+WOERNER is one of the main brands of the Group.
